Vehicle Description

1961 Ford Thunderbird Convertible – 390 V8 | Factory A/C | Power Options | Roadster Top — View all 80+ photos on our website 1961 Ford Thunderbird convertible finished in its original factory bright red, believed to be Rangoon Red, with black vinyl interior and a black power convertible top. The 1961 model year is widely regarded as the most desirable of the early Thunderbird convertibles due to its redesigned styling, lower and more streamlined body, and cleaner proportions compared to earlier years. It represents the peak of the “bullet bird” evolution, combining personal luxury features with a more modern, European-influenced shape. This example also includes the factory-style roadster tonneau cover, which converts the look of the car into a true two-seat roadster appearance when the soft top is down—one of the most distinctive and collectible styling features available on these cars. Powered by the original 390 cubic inch V8 paired with an automatic transmission. The car has recently been serviced and is in good mechanical condition. Factory and option equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, power steering, and power brakes. It also features the Swing-Away steering wheel, a unique Ford design that pivots the steering wheel outward to improve driver entry and exit. Additional equipment includes optional wire wheels, rear fender skirts, and Coker Classic redline tires for a period-correct look. Interior and convertible top are both in good condition with no rips or tears. Odometer reads 11,401 miles. Body is in good overall condition with minor blemishes consistent with age. Paint is a quality respray that still presents very well. Chrome is in good condition overall, with light oxidation on the circular trim around the taillights as shown in photos. Overall, this is a well-optioned and highly desirable 1961 Thunderbird convertible with the rare roadster tonneau cover, strong factory equipment, and solid mechanical condition.
